Mesh Dependency / Mesh convergence study

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

Mesh dependency (mesh convergence study) analysis and quality control

are crucial in FEA. Without this study, it is impossible to know whether the final outcome is accurate or not. The majority of people skip this step to avoid complications in their Academic projects works, dissertations, and assignment work. Our team won't skip this step; instead, we'll only finish the analysis with a mesh dependence analysis.

Mesh independence refers to a mesh that has been tuned to contain the fewest number of cells possible in order to provide a solution that is unaffected by further mesh refinement, i.e., the solution is independent of the resolution for decreasing element sizes and increasing cell counts. As the grid is refined, a parameter of interest, such as deformation velocity or pressure, is typically continuously monitored. In an ideal instance, at least three distinct grid resolutions should be evaluated, with each succeeding mesh being refined or coarsened. As the flow domain is improved and the number of cells in the flow domain increases, the grid cells become smaller.
